Project Overview & Motivation
This is an experimental project in which NCCU ICI collaborates with NTU Civil Engineering on the "Self-Building" initiative, which focuses on creating a wooden structure near the Xindian River in Treasure Hill. We were honored to have our exhibition featured as part of the "Light Festival" from March 27 to May 5, 2024.
This animation is adapted from the unpublished storybook titled “In Front of My House, A Creek Flows." With the assistance of Endospace Studio, we displayed it on a large special screen.

Design Process—Storyboard

We began the process by seeking inspiration and determining the most effective approach to adapting our previous book into motion pictures. Diligently, we selected key scenes from the book and incorporated meaningful animated elements to enhance transitions between scenes.

Design Process—Installation

Collaborating with NTU Civil Engineering and Endospace Studio, we conducted multiple meetings within a one-month timeframe. During these sessions, we planned the overall designs, measured the wooden structure, evaluated the feasibility, and almost considered abandoning the project due to time constraints in last week. Nevertheless, we persevered and successfully completed it.
Problem ⇒ Solution
Treasure Hill is a bustling hub where people gather and interact, reminiscent of a space where one can unwind and enjoy the comfort of a bedtime story. Inspired by this atmosphere, our team conceived the idea of transforming our storybook into a video format, akin to a bedtime tale, within the open space at wooden structure at night.
Results
Despite facing tight time constraints last week, we nearly considered abandoning the project. However, we persevered and managed to successfully complete it within the 1.5-week deadline. The exhibition has been well-received by many, fulfilling the purpose of our initial idea. Notably, the dean of the department, along with several professors and members of the college community, visited our exhibition and enjoyed the experience together.
My Contributions & Team
This project is part of the "Design for Social Innovation [ Advance ] " class. The animation design and editing process was led by Ryu Wipakorn and Thanaphon Tatinij under the supervision of the course instructor, Assistant Professor Hung-Ying Chen, from the International College of Innovation at NCCU.
